Invitations will be sent to our members by e-mail.
Spring Seminar – 6 May 2026 – Discussion with Sir Robert Buckland and Sir Jonathan Jones
The Young Public Lawyers’ Group (in conjunction with Linklaters and Hogan Lovells) would be delighted if you could join us for a discussion with the Rt Hon Sir Robert Buckland KBE KC and Sir Jonathan Jones KCB KC on 6 May 2026.
Sir Robert (as Solicitor-General from 2014-2019 and Lord Chancellor from 2019-2021) and Sir Jonathan (as Treasury Solicitor from 2014-2020) will offer a rare and complementary vantage point on what it means to advise government and take decisions under pressure.
The seminar will be a frank and wide-ranging conversation about the realities of these roles. How do you best deliver advice to government that may be difficult to hear? How is legal advice received by Ministers? How do you navigate the tension between legal risk and political imperative? And what is the proper function of judicial review in holding the executive to account?
This is an unmissable opportunity to hear two lawyers who have held government legal roles at the very highest level speak candidly about these questions that go to the heart of public law practice.
The seminar will be chaired by Alex Fawke (Linklaters) and Louis Biggs (Hogan Lovells), and there will be an opportunity for Q&A. There will also be drinks available after the discussion.
As this is an in-person event, please sign up to the Mailing List (under the Membership Tab) and we will then send you an invite.
